‘From the Field’ video upload facility gives voice to health communities in developing world

In recent years the internet has become home to an immeasurable number of online communities, which are now increasingly becoming catalysts for social activism – cementing the emergence of the internet as a powerful social phenomenon.
Global Health TV, a web-based TV channel that documents global health issues from across the world, has pioneered this vision of internet as a major agent for raising awareness and instigating social change. Alongside WebsEdge, Global Health TV has launched the ‘From the Field’ initiative, allowing health workers on the ground to upload digital videos showcasing their efforts to tackle global health problems such as malaria, TB, HIV/AIDS and more.
The ‘From the Field’ platform is not just for NGO’s; web-based videos are the perfect tools for grass-root charities, whether you’re volunteering within an organisation, on your own, or maybe undertaking a medical elective - your videos can offer information and inspiration on a worldwide stage.

Christine - thanks for the 1st hand account. I was doubtful myself, but was hoping that it would be a great launching point for education, sharing ideas, generating demand and fruitful discussion. Hopefully it will evolve.

I was at the Global Health Council meeting in D.C. last week, where the new webTV site was launched. I was disappointed. Although the production values are good, the video pieces seem more like ads for the sponsoring organizations. I was hoping for something more journalistic.
